Your Future is Now

With various school of thoughts, depicting the Nigerian youth as unemployable and categorized for instigating crimes and carrying out criminal activities, the” Your future is now” project sort to change the existing narrative. Knowing that the youths, are the driving force for the future of any economy, the social actors for change and  leaders of tomorrow; created the needed importance for the future is now project. The project was born out of the need to ensure youths took their legitimate place in the society beyond the negative speculation and pronouncements. The future is now project, was centered on developing the capacity of women and youths by mobilizing and cooperating them into various project groups (clusters) for training, evaluation, empowerment and mentorship in order to build a strong generation of young entrepreneurs. The project was in line with the United Nations Sustainable development goals (UNDP), which aims at eliminating poverty, zero hunger level, decent work and economic growth amongst others.

Aims and Objectives of the Project.

The project was hatched with the intent to mobilize and co-operate women and youths into various skilled and cooperate groups, so as to train and empower women and youths through the cooperatives. It was also for the purpose of mentoring the participants whilst carrying out monitoring and evaluation process on a regular basis during the entire duration of the project. The project was to create a healthier atmosphere and higher quality of life for the underprivileged and at-risk women and youths.

The target beneficiaries of the project were Graduates, Undergraduates, Artisans, Farmers, Traders, Deportees, etc.

There were a number of expected outcomes with the implementation of the project.

  1. To appreciate the functions of cooperative societies, as the engine of community development.
  2. To successfully engage women and youths in productive ventures that will make them self-reliant.
  3. To create opportunities and foundations that give way to crime free communities.
  4. To institute cooperatives that promote unity, growth and development at the community levels.
  5. To serve as a link/bridge that creates a synergy between the government and the people in community development programs.

 

With available monitoring and evaluation processes, it was identified that cooperative societies are the bedrock of community development, targeting poverty and unemployment at the grassroot level.
